I tagged along to the farmer’s market with Mom. We got some spinach and garlic pasta and some asparagus which I’m planning on making for dinner tonight. Should be tasty.

A week ago we got another dog. It was a long and arduous process to find her. We ended up looking at three different shelters and introduced the current dog (Buddy) to maybe a dozen. Toula is a pointer-pit bull mix. There have been some breed bans against pit bulls, but luckily not in our city. However, Mom’s ordered us not to tell people that Toula has pit bull in her, going so far as to quiz us, trying to catch us off-guard.

Toula is sweet, but stubborn. She’s also terrified of my dad, for reasons unbeknownst to us. She had no problem with him at the pound but now she runs from him and hides under the table. It’s pathetic—he wants her soooo badly to like him.

Toula the Vicious Pit Bull

I don't know where she'll sleep when I finally get around to doing laundry.

I really need to get a move on my Foreman Fest fic. I have the beginning and the ending and now I have to somehow string them together. That’s generally how my writing goes—I write the beginning and ending pretty quickly and then take forever writing the middle bit. Even if I know what’s actually supposed to be in between (which I frequently don’t), I find it tedious to sit down and write. Plus, I know I need a Cameron scene, and I loathe writing Cameron. It’s difficult for me to overcome my dislike and not write her as obnoxious and petty. And usually I fail in that to some degree.

Sigh. I wonder how strict that deadline is...

That's a beautiful dog, and thank you for going through a shelter rather than a breeder or pet shop :)

Oh, that deadline. Not very strict :) But it's still 30 days away, or something like that -- see how not strict it is? I don't even know how many days are left. So don't stress about it! This is a stress-free fest, here.

Aw, thanks. Yes, I'm a big believer in pound puppies. It just breaks my heart having to pick only one and leave the others. I'm such a sap when it comes to dogs. I don't think I've ever made it through an episode of Emergency Vet without tearing up.

Oh, that deadline. Not very strict :)

Oh, good. Although, maybe someone riding my ass about it would be the motivation I need...

The last time we adopted a cat, I left the shelter sobbing so hard I couldn't see straight. I gave myself a migraine from it. Several years later, I volunteered at a shelter for about two days before I couldn't handle it anymore and had to quit.

Oh, and I'll gladly ride your ass if you want that kind of motivation, baby ;)

Hm, I was trying to think of an appropriately coy and suggestive reply, but I've failed. So how about if we just pretend that I did? Here's an emoticon heart if it helps. <3 And I've used my amusing flying phallus icon--if that's not sexy, I don't know what is.

Yeesh...and I wonder why I have trouble picking people up.

I know! Isn't she darling? Well, I guess I'm biased.

Just saw the pics, she's a sweetie. Hope she got over her fear of your Dad. Looks like she's a really good (and smart)lady, finding the best place to sleep. I just lost one of my dogs on New Year's Eve. He'd been with me for over 10 years and I really miss him and think of him often. They do know how to make themselves an indispensable part of your life.

Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is, dogs are so much more than just pets. I still miss the Bassett hound I grew up with, and I suppose I always will. *hugs*

Toula's settling in nicely, but she's still a shy girl. She has the sweetest temperament, very affectionate.
